(Note the use of TWO “hit” idioms: “hit rock bottom”) Billy is an alcoholic; he has been hitting the bottle since he was 18. <em>(Use a semi-colon, because the first and last parts of this sentence can stand alone. So, they need a semi-colon to join them together.) My uncle hits the bottle everyday, and I always tell him to stop drinking, but he can’t stop. Joey hit the bottle after losing his house, job, and kids to a fire; fortunately he joined Alcoholics Anonymous. After Eric hit the bottle, it was lucky that he didn’t cause a lot of troubles.
