Marquita Holmes, BS
Personal Statement
A native of the San Francisco, California area, I have been blessed to visit many places across the USA and the world. I have traveled to Belize, Panama, Costa Rica, the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Hungary, Romania, Ukraine, Jordan, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Israel, Thailand, Hong Kong, Macau, and China. As a well-traveled person, I have a global perspective on people and culture. And not only have I traveled much, but I have lived and raised my family overseas, having resided in the Middle Eastern country of Oman for two years (not on a base, but in the community). There I attended several diplomatic functions and represented the United States to foreign governments. The two years in Oman were a time of cultural immersion and I used my knowledge of the Arabic language and culture to regularly interact and engage the local residents.
I have hosted Chinese Summer exchange students in my home since 2018. This shows I am committed to furthering my knowledge of Chinese people and culture. I also received my Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certification in Aug 2019. This demonstrates my willingness to keep improving my teaching skills and keep helping other people.
