Are they synonyms \u540c\u4e49\u5b57 in English?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The answer is \u2013 Yes, they are practically synonyms, in that their meanings are different, but their general use is usually different. For example, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thesaurus.com\/browse\/inheritance?s=t\">Thesaurus.com<\/a> lists them as synonyms.&nbsp; To make things more interesting, this is one of those many cases where <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Chinese has one translation for multiple English words<\/span>, such as: look forward to \/ expect; shade \/ shadow; dark \/ black, etc.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Inheritance<\/strong><\/span> generally refers to money, property, etc., that is received from someone when that person dies.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>She began her own business with the&nbsp;inheritance&nbsp;she got from her grandfather.<\/li>\n<li>He left sizable&nbsp;inheritances&nbsp;to his children. (plural use)<\/li>\n<li>Sometimes retired people will spend a lot of money on a new car or travel trailer put a bumper sticker on it, <a href=\"http:\/\/business.financialpost.com\/personal-finance\/retirement\/inheritance\/dont-bank-on-that-inheritance\">I&#8217;M SPENDING MY KIDS&#8217; INHERITANCE<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The Bible indicates we should plan, not only for our children, but for our grandchildren. Proverbs 13:22 says &#8220;A good man leaves an inheritance to his children\u2019s children,&nbsp;but&nbsp;the sinner\u2019s wealth is laid up for the righteous.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Often, what a person inherits is taxed by the government: &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=inheritance+tax&amp;tbm=isch&amp;ved=2ahUKEwi2nJKzhZrmAhUJQlMKHYszBDQQ2-cCegQIABAA&amp;oq=inheritance+tax&amp;gs_l=img.3...0.0..3998...0.0..0.0.0.......0......gws-wiz-img.2g4qL9Jlqos&amp;ei=faDmXfbpJImEzQKL55CgAw&amp;bih=769&amp;biw=1600&amp;rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS775US775#imgrc=WLSYXvQOcYZEYM\">inheritance tax<\/a> is a tax on inherited property or money.<\/p>\n<p>In a biological sense, inheritance means the reception of genetic qualities by transmission from parent to offspring. This is synonymous with <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">heredity<\/span><\/strong>, or the physical features that offspring inherit from their parents, such as eye color, shape of nose and mouth, height and other distinguishing physical characteristics.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>During the 1860s, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=austria&amp;rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS775US775&amp;source=lnms&amp;tbm=isch&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=0ahUKEwi23bOjl5LaAhUCx2MKHfjaDs8Q_AUIDSgE&amp;biw=1600&amp;bih=769#imgrc=8AYtbprFpdHjfM:\">Austrian<\/a> monk and scientist <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gregor_Mendel\">Gregor Mendel<\/a> examined the inheritance of certain physical characteristics of pea plants (e.g., seed color, seed shape, flower color, etc.), which he called traits, by successive generations of plants.&nbsp;Mendel is called, \u201cthe father of modern genetics.\u201d (the study of genes,&nbsp;genetic&nbsp;variation, and heredity in living organisms)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Heritage<\/strong><\/span>, on the other hand, typically means something from the past that is still important or valuable, like culture, traditions, achievements, beliefs, etc., that are part of the history of a group or nation&nbsp;(usually singular). According to Matthew from Nanjing, this can also be&nbsp; \u4f20\u627f (Chu\u00e1nch\u00e9ng) in Chinese.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>England is a nation with a rich&nbsp;heritage&nbsp;of folklore (example \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Robin+Hood&amp;rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS775US775&amp;source=lnms&amp;tbm=isch&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=0ahUKEwjIjq-5l5LaAhVD1mMKHXvQB5YQ_AUICigB&amp;biw=1600&amp;bih=769#imgrc=GbQh-dbegEhv2M:\">Robin Hood<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>His <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Poland&amp;rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS775US775&amp;source=lnms&amp;tbm=isch&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=0ahUKEwjlpJ7Jl5LaAhVLxWMKHdY2AE0Q_AUIDSgE&amp;biw=1600&amp;bih=769#imgrc=4wEHbgZZPcHe9M:\">Polish<\/a>&nbsp;heritage&nbsp;was very important to him.<\/li>\n<li>These battlefields are an important part of our&nbsp;heritage&nbsp;and should be preserved; this is what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.civilwar.org\/\">The Civil War Trust<\/a> does.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=great+wall&amp;rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS775US775&amp;source=lnms&amp;tbm=isch&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=0ahUKEwjyg7n5l5LaAhUNymMKHTeTBi8Q_AUICygC&amp;biw=1600&amp;bih=769#imgrc=M50DBZICmp05BM:\">Great Wall<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelchinaguide.com\/cityguides\/beijing\/forbidden.htm\">Forbidden City<\/a> are important landmarks of China\u2019s rich heritage and long history.<\/li>\n<li>In the American Southeast, there is a heated debate about the &#8220;Rebel Flag&#8221; from the Confederacy during the Civil War. Some see it as a symbol of hatred and racism, but others use the term <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bing.com\/images\/search?view=detailV2&amp;ccid=rc%2F7e7nc&amp;id=0C57042317BFDD8CE964A1CB690BDA7A1BBC971A&amp;thid=OIP.rc_7e7ncPCwLfiNKCdcUWQAAAA&amp;mediaurl=http%3A%2F%2Fi.ebayimg.com%2F00%2Fs%2FOTQ2WDE2MDA%3D%2F%24(KGrHqVHJBcE-di9m0mVBPvGsGI)lQ~~60_35.JPG&amp;exph=177&amp;expw=300&amp;q=heritage+not+hate&amp;simid=608008987219789909&amp;selectedindex=6&amp;ajaxhist=0&amp;vt=0&amp;sim=11\">HERITAGE NOT HATE<\/a>, to show it represents Southern pride and tradition.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A similar word is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Tradition \uff08\u4f20\u7edf)&nbsp;<\/strong><\/span> , the way beliefs and customs are passed down from one generation to the next.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Many American families have the tradition of eating turkey at Thanksgiving and ham at Christmas and Easter.<\/li>\n<li>One of our family&#8217;s favorite traditions is going to see the fireworks on the Fourth of July.<\/li>\n<li>For many Americans, going to church for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bing.com\/images\/search?view=detailV2&amp;ccid=dyTZeWUd&amp;id=A7B9B8DEF275A448463F10D1F3930857F4FBCE26&amp;thid=OIP.dyTZeWUdXKOlR-Nn5-CRGAHaFj&amp;mediaurl=http:\/\/firstbaptistregina.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/christmas-eve-candlelight-service-program-i4.jpg&amp;exph=720&amp;expw=960&amp;q=candlelight+service&amp;simid=608011253551140692&amp;selectedIndex=27&amp;ajaxhist=0\">candlelight service on Christmas Eve<\/a> is a treasured Christmas tradition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Note about the photograph: In March 2018, my family and I visited friends in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitrichmondva.com\/\">Richmond, Virginia<\/a>, to visit the Terra Cotta Warriors on display, and we drove by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.historicstjohnschurch.org\/\">St. John&#8217;s Church<\/a>, site of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redhill.org\/\">Patrick Henry<\/a>&#8216;s famous <a href=\"http:\/\/www.history.org\/almanack\/life\/politics\/giveme.cfm\">&#8220;Give me Liberty or give me Death!&#8221; speech<\/a>. Just days before Mr. Woodson had told me Jack&#8217;s question about the word &#8220;heritage,&#8221; so when I saw this sign, I wanted to get a picture of it.
