He had written something like, &#8220;If you cannot make this appointment, please notice me.&#8221; <em>Oops<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>This is a COMMON mistake many native speakers of Chinese make when writing or speaking English. Can you find it? It should read, &#8220;If you cannot make this appointment, please <strong>notify<\/strong> me.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/dreyercoaching.com\/beardeddragonmedia\/core-concepts\/english-is-a-crazy-language\/\">English is a crazy language<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Notice&#8221; as a NOUN means an announcement or message, such as &#8220;The <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">notice<\/span> on the wall said &#8220;Meeting at 3:00 today.&#8221; &nbsp;Chinese:&nbsp;\u516c\u544a<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>However, &#8220;notice&#8221; as a VERB means to pay attention to, or to observe. &nbsp;&#8220;Have you <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">noticed<\/span> how many commercials there are during this TV show?&#8221; &nbsp;&#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Notice<\/span> how good study habits usually lead to higher grades.&#8221; &nbsp;Chinese: \u6ce8\u610f or&nbsp;\u770b\u5230.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>And &#8220;notify&#8221; means to tell someone something, to make them aware of something. &nbsp; Chinese: \u901a\u77e5 &nbsp;&nbsp;Example: Please <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">notify<\/span> me when he returns to the office. &nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;If you have found these two words confusing, join the club.
