The class will place special emphasis on helping students develop their reading, vocabulary, writing, and critical thinking skills. In contrast to most other such summer programs, this course is centered around students reading a book, Prince Caspian by C.S. Lewis, and learning vocabulary words from it and writing on topics related to the text. Research shows that when reading, vocabulary, writing, and class discussions are interlocked around a unifiying theme, as opposed to random material, greater learning outcomes are achieved.
